Georgia’s Fulton County and the City of College Park are partnering on a tiny homes pilot program. The program will use $1 million in federal funding to build six to eight tiny homes on a half-acre of land near the College Park MARTA station.
The tiny homes will be less than 500 square feet and will be priced between $100,000 and $150,000. They will be designed to be affordable and energy-efficient.
The houses would look similar to tiny homes at South Park Cottage, which is also in College Park.
The pilot program is expected to be a test case for tiny homes as a solution to the affordable housing crisis. Tiny homes are a smaller alternative to traditional homes that can be more affordable and easier to maintain. They are also a more sustainable option, as they require less land and resources to build and maintain.
The College Park City Council is expected to discuss the tiny home pilot program at its meeting on June 1. If approved, construction on the tiny homes could begin later this year.
The tiny homes pilot program is a positive step towards addressing the affordable housing crisis in Fulton County and College Park. It is a creative and innovative solution that could provide much-needed housing for residents who are struggling to afford a traditional home.
The program is also a win for the environment, as it will help to reduce the carbon footprint of our communities. I encourage the College Park City Council to approve the tiny homes pilot program and I look forward to seeing it come to fruition.
